hiiragi iwashi

Today is “Setsubun” .
“Setsubun” is the last day of winter in traditional calendar. (usually the 3rd in Feb.)
We decorate this (hiiragi iwashi) in front of our house to get evil away.

Evil hates spiky leaves and bad smell of this fish.
Very unique and traditional display, isn’t it?

Iwashi is very cheap and nutritious food including Umami.
Why don’t you try it with warmed Junmaishu or Honjouzoushu?

Junmaishu- sake which is made by only rice, water and koji (malted rice)
Honjouzoushu-sake which is added brewing alcohol
